Daylight Savings Time
Monday, March 8, 2010 at 5:39PM Daylight savings time starts on March 14, less than a week away as I write this. It is one of my favorite days of the year, because it's such a giant step towards summer. It's a milestone on the long march out of winter.
I love to pass the milestone days of winter. The season starts with Thanksgiving Day, then Christmas and New Year's Day, goes on past the Super Bowl, Valentine's Day, the Oscars, and Daylight Savings Time. Now we're getting somewhere. Next come St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and April Fool's Day. Mother's Day, assorted birthdays, then Memorial Day. The start of summer.
I hate to pass the milestones of summer. Time can slow down now, as far as I'm concerned, through Father's Day, last day of school, the solstice, Independence Day, Pioneer Day, more birthdays, then Labor Day. The beginning of the end. It's a fast slide into the darkness of winter now, only a few days between my birthday, Mountain Standard Time, Halloween, then Thanksgiving again.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Daylight Savings Time, to some, means they lose an hour of their day. But I get an extra hour of sunlight. An extra hour to play outside after dinner. I'm looking forward to it.

I was looking forward to the sunrise at about 6:30, but now it will be dark again. Oh well, it'll come back again.
